On August 26th, we welcomed an estimated 770 students and their families to the Second Baptist Church Southwest for our largest Back 2 School Health and Wellness Festival in the Greater Washington Urban League’s history!
ABOUT THE 11th ANNUAL HEALTH & WELLNESS BACK 2 SCHOOL FESTIVAL
Our event ensured that every family left equipped for a healthy school year.
Every student who walked in empty handed left with the following:
Brand new, durable backpack - filled with notebook paper, composition books, pencils, pens, rulers, calculators and more!
A best-selling book featuring black children written by an author of color
An emotional wellness fidget / anxiety coping toy
A $10 Giant grocery gift card

Health & Wellness Pavilion: we’ll provide various health screenings for the entire family, including vaccines for COVID, influenza, and tetanus.

Black Brilliance Marketplace: we’ll have Black-owned businesses with items for sale that the whole family can enjoy.

Mental & Emotional Wellness Pavilion: we’ll have experts on hand to discuss youth therapy, emotional learning, behavioral disabilities, and caregiving for seniors.

Food Station: shop at our Black Farmers Market, judge the healthy tasting samples, and buy lunch at one of the many food trucks.

Arts & Crafts Station: kids will enjoy various activities to ignite their creativity and engage their inner artist!

Voter Registration Drive: get civically engaged by learning more about the upcoming elections in your area and register to vote!
