REMEMBERING DR. DOROTHY HEIGHT: Statement of GWUL President Maudine R. Cooper, April 20, 2010

We have truly lost a civil rights warrior and hero today. Often the term, hero is used too loosely, but not in this case. Dr. Height embodied a model for civic activism. As National Urban League President Marc Morial said today: The League “has lost a friend, an inspiration, a mentor and a moral touchstone.” I am proud to have known Dr. Height professionally and personally. We in the civil rights movement are forever thankful for her contributions and will use her work to continue to inspire us.
