FRAUD ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

Please be advised that the Greater Washington Urban League does not solicit funds door-to-door to pay a person’s utility or any other bills or for donations. It has recently been brought to our attention that there may be a person or persons fraudulently claiming to represent the League. If you are approached by anyone -- in person, over the phone, via email or through postal mail – requesting funds on behalf of the League.



  • DO NOT give him or her any money, bank account information, credit card numbers, or other personal information

  • Immediately report the incident to the Metropolitan Police Department, Financial Crimes Division at 202-727-4159 or your local police department if you live outside DC.

  • File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP (382-4357).  Complaints can help the FTC detect patterns of wrong-doing, and lead to investigations and prosecutions.

  • You may also contact the DC Attorney General’s consumer hotline at (202) 442-9828 or the attorney general’s consumer affairs office in your state.
