Q.Is the Future Leaders in Mobility Program designed for students interested in cars?


A.While exposure to cars is a benefit of participating in the Future Leaders in Mobility Program, it is not the only focus. This program will provide student participants with exposure to many career paths available in the automotive industry. Whether you are interested in working in the production plant, in the dealership or in a corporate position, this program has much to offer you.




Q.Do you have a complete list of careers that will be discussed during the program?


A.Areas of focus and/or discussion include, but may not be limited to, the following career paths: Finance, Government Relations, Engineering, Corporate Law, Human Relations, Supply Chain Management (Logistics), Marketing and Branding, Manufacturing, and Dealership Operations.




Q. How many students will be selected for the Future Leaders in Mobility Program?


A. There will be twenty (20) students selected for the program.




Q. When and how will I find out if I am selected for the program?


A. You will be notified the week of June 25, 2021, via a phone call.




Q. What are the dates and times of the program?


A. The program will be held from August 16–20, 2021, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily.




Q. Will you provide transportation to and from the VWGoA site?


A. Yes. Student participants will meet the team at the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) at 8:00 AM every day. A bus will transport all the students to the VWGoA site and return you to GWUL for pick-up at 5:00 PM.




Q. Are the students required to take the GWUL transportation during the week-long program?


A. Yes. Commuting via the GWUL transportation is required.




Q. Will I need to pack a lunch to bring every day?


A. No. We will provide snacks and lunch daily.




Q. Will pictures be taken of me during the program?


A. Yes, only if a parent or guardian has signed the Photo Release Form.

FUTURE LEADERS IN MOBILITY PROGRAM

Q. Is there an application fee?


A. No. There is no application fee for the program.




Q. What are the eligibility criteria?


A. The eligibility criteria require you to be:
1. A rising high school junior or senior (graduating class of 2022 or 2023);
2. From a historically underserved and vulnerable population;
3. A resident of the District of Columbia; Montgomery County, MD; Prince Georges County, MD; or Northern Virginia;
4. Interested in a career in the automotive industry.




Q. When is the application due?


A. The application is due no later than May 21, 2021.




Q. Will my parent have to approve my participation in the program?


A. Yes. Your parent or guardian will need to complete and submit a Parental Approval and Permission Form prior to your attendance.




Q. Do I need a reference letter?


A. Yes. Two reference letters are required.




Q. Do I have to submit an essay?


A. Yes. Your essay will be submitted using the fillable form in the application. It may not exceed 500 words.




Q. How do I submit my application?


A. Your complete application, which includes your letters of reference, will be submitted via email to futureleaders@gwul.org.

Q. Do I have to attend the mandatory half-day orientation session?


A. Yes. You will need to attend the half-day orientation session




Q. How long will the orientation session take?


A. The orientation session will be approximately three hours in length.
