Computer For Seniors - Health Care Finances Administration
The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) made four (4) computers available to the GWUL Aging Division. Under the Computers for Seniors program, HCFA, Department of Health and Human Services made available, 500 surplus model 486 personal computers (PCs) to senior centers throughout the country. This program is designed to increase communications between HCFA and Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries by providing easier access to HCFA's Internet Web Site, and to learn more about beneficiaries' use of the Internet as a communications tool.
Through this program, HCFA is providing computers and basic Windows and DOS operating software to the senior centers. The centers are responsible for installing and maintaining the equipment, as well as providing a modem and Internet access. HCFA is encouraging senior centers to work with their communities to enhance the access and ability of seniors to use the computers.
This service is designed to provide Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries with the information they need to understand HCFA programs and to help seniors make informed health card.
